March 2014 Mission Trip Re-Cap

March 2014 Teams

We had two teams working and ministering in Moldova during March of 2014. The first team ministered primarily to girls from two Transition Homes operated by New Hope Moldova. The focus was on making the girls feel special and teaching them some crafts and sewing skills. One of the ladies on the team, Dana, is a beautician and she did the hair of each of the 16 girls as they rotated between several different groups…sewing, making jewelry and making dressy scarves. Dana and all of our ladies then taught the girls how to do manicures and each girl had their nails done. We were able to leave a lot of finger nail polish and supplies so that they could continue to practice on one another.

The jewelry (necklaces and bracelets) were made from paper napkins with multi-colored designs by cutting thin strips, wetting and gluing the strips over a small skewer type stick and letting them dry into beads that were then strung together to make very attractive jewelry. The ladies also taught the girls how to make some very dressy, attractive scarves from a special yarn and they turned out beautifully. While some girls were doing these projects, other girls were learning and working on sewing skills. The goal is to teach the girls ways to earn money and earn a living so they don’t get caught up in the sex trade.

This team also worked with the teachers in the district of Floresti in developing teaching methodologies and skills for teaching English in their classrooms. The teachers then had our teachers visit their classrooms to teach and share with their students. The team also taught in an orphanage and visited several orphanages to share God’s love and gifts that were sent over with the team. Over two hundred dresses and close to 150 stuffed animals made by church members were also distributed. What a blessing to watch God’s love showered by this team!

Team two had a primary focus of teaching English as a Second Language in two Universities and quite a number of elementary and high schools. Because of the trust that has been developed over the past few years, we now have to freedom to share our testimonies and the gospel of Jesus Christ freely in the schools. At the University in Balti, all of the fourth year English Language students were Certified in English as a Foreign Language while the other teachers visited and taught in multiple classes of university students and once again were able to share the gospel openly with the students who were hungry to hear about our faith. Then on our last day in the university, we all worked as a team to teach about 30 elementary and high school teachers in methodologies and approaches to teaching their students. This provided more invitations to come into the schools and the classrooms of these teachers and the blessing abounded!

The pictures of the two teams tell the story of the relationships built and the impact of these two teams.
